Summary

Introduced with the Asbestos-related Claims (Management of Commonwealth Liabilities) Bill 2005, the bill amends the

Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988
in relation to certain consequential and transitional matters arising from the proposed
Asbestos-related Claims (Management of Commonwealth Liabilities) Act 2005
, and transfers any remaining liabilities of the Stevedoring Industry Finance Committee (SIFC) to the Commonwealth. Also repeals the
Stevedoring Industry Finance Committee Act 1977
,
Stevedoring Industry Levy Act 1977
and
Stevedoring Industry Levy Collection Act 1977
following the transfer of SIFC liabilities.
